Who are we?

We are a group of passionate fans of Japanese pop culture who operate as the MofuCon Association. Our community brings together people who love anime, manga, video games, and other aspects of Japanese culture.

Our activities focus on sharing knowledge and inspiration, and spending time together in a friendly and creative environment.

How did it all start?

The Makkon Association (now the MofuCon Association) began as small gatherings of Japanese pop culture fans. Our first major step was organizing the Novoletka event, which brought anime and manga fans together during the holiday season. Novoletka quickly became a popular event and laid the foundation for future projects.

We organized informal gatherings, such as Anime Tea Time, where we relaxed together, watched anime, and discussed the latest series.

With growing support and collaboration, these humble beginnings grew into our biggest event: the annual Makkon convention (now MofuCon) — the largest event for Japanese pop culture fans in Slovenia.

What do we do?

Our activities include organizing various events, especially the MofuCon convention — the largest annual event in Slovenia for anime and manga fans. MofuCon offers a wide range of activities, from talks and workshops to cosplay competitions and video game tournaments.

In addition, we regularly hold smaller Mofu-kai gatherings, where members of our community spend time together, share experiences, and enjoy different aspects of Japanese pop culture. We also hold manga-drawing workshops, talks on Japanese history and culture, and other themed events that encourage creativity and connection.

MofuCon

MofuCon (モフコン) comes from the onomatopoeia mofu-mofu (もふもふ), meaning something soft and fluffy… like snow!

You can join us every year at Slovenia’s snowiest and largest anime convention, held in Ljubljana in December.

The members who faithfully organized the Makkon event all these years have retired and made room for a new generation of Japanese pop culture fans. We therefore unanimously decided to retire the Makkon event as well and create a new one, under the watchful eye of our predecessors.

The MofuCon Association now proudly presents: MofuCon!

MofuCon is the latest event organized by the MofuCon Association. Much of the event remains the same, so you can once again look forward to shops, artists, talks, video games, cosplay, and more.
